BPC-157 in Canada: A Research Reference

BPC-157 is one of the most studied peptides in preclinical tissue biology. This guide summarises its mechanism, research literature, and key properties for Canadian laboratory researchers. Research use only.

What Is BPC-157?

BPC-157 (Body Protective Compound-157) is a synthetic 15-amino-acid peptide (Gly-Glu-Pro-Pro-Pro-Gly-Lys-Pro-Ala-Asp-Asp-Ala-Gly-Leu-Val) derived from a protein sequence in human gastric juice. It was first identified and studied extensively by the Sikiric group at Zagreb University Medical School, where research began in the early 1990s and has produced hundreds of published preclinical studies.

Proposed Mechanisms Under Investigation

Unlike many peptides with a defined single receptor, BPC-157 does not have a fully characterized receptor target. Research has implicated multiple pathways including: VEGFR2 (vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2) modulation in angiogenesis models; nitric oxide (NO) system interactions affecting smooth muscle and vascular biology; FAK (focal adhesion kinase) pathway effects on cell migration; and growth factor receptor (EGF, FGF) pathway interactions in tissue repair models.
